New Trends in Window Coverings and Interior Design
With each new year comes new trends in window coverings and interior design. Trends in color seem to really have an impact on the decisions people make in decorating their homes. Here are some of the color trends we’re noticing for 2013.
Benjamin Moore Color of the Year
“Lemon Sorbet” has been selected as the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year. Color experts say that yellow makes us feel optimistic, happy, and looking toward a bright future. Using this color in your room – whether it’s on the wall or used in custom draperies or upholstery – can tie together a lot of separate colors in a room, such as grays, purples, blues, greens, pinks and taupes, to make a pleasant, comfortable, and unified design statement.

This Year’s Red: Garnet
A deep red, garnet is a beautiful accent color for any room. With rich tones and bold saturation, garnet goes well with black, gold, taupe, and sometimes even white when done right. Using modest amounts of garnet will create a “wow” factor in any room. It’s perfect for throw pillows, window toppers, and unique décor accessories. Accents of garnet can draw the eye to other items in your room.
Deep Green is Back
This year’s green is a deep green. It’s not quite forest green because it has a little bit of yellow in it, but more like a Christmas green that works all year long. When using deep green in interior design, offset it with a creamy white or beige. In a bedroom, deep green would work well with custom bedding and drapery, or as the primary color on the walls.
Like Purple? Go with a Mulberry
Mulberry is a red-purple, bold and full of life. For purple-lovers, this color is softer than a bright purple, and more sophisticated than lavender. Mulberry is nicely paired with the yellow-greens, golds and even gray. Best used as an accent color, mulberry is beautiful on drapery, upholstery, small window coverings, or on an accent wall.
Pantone Color of the Year: Emerald
Each year, color-giant Pantone selects a “color of the year.” This year, that color is “emerald,” a greenish blue that is described as richer than turquoise and deeper than aqua. As a very versatile color, emerald works in any room, either as a principal color or as an accent. With hundreds of color combinations available on Hunter Douglas window fashions such as Duette® honeycomb shades and Pirouette® window shadings, we can help you use any of this year’s colors in your interior design.
