What’s Hot in Interior Design
Trends come and go in all aspects of life, from what we wear to the latest gifting craze to what’s trendy in restaurants. And it’s no different in interior design. At Ross Howard Designs here in Dallas, we watch the trends in interior design so you don’t have to—and we’re sharing them with you now. If you’ve been thinking about updating your home, perhaps one of these design fads will inspire you.
Main Areas You Can Address
If you’re looking to update just one room, perhaps the following will interest you:
- The kitchen. These days, black or darker looks are trending in kitchen design. You could consider a patterned backsplash in dark tile, or even paint tile floor or cabinets to go darker.
- The bathroom. In the bath, bigger is better when it comes to the tub these days. People are trending toward large soaking tubs—or at the least a tub that’s a showpiece for the room.
- Any room. More and more people are trending toward bold, patterned wallpaper or wallpaper with distinctive prints, especially if it’s in mustard yellow. Where once the in look was to minimalize, now people are going the opposite direction by “maximalizing” their look on the wall.
Décor
People are moving away from mass-produced décor in favor of one-off artisanal pieces, such as macramé, woven blankets as art, and hand-thrown pottery or glass. And they’re looking more and more at handmade furniture—especially if it’s curved or scallop-shaped.
Sustainability
People are putting more and more value on sustainable goods, such as things produced with earth-friendly materials or things that bring the outdoors in. You might enjoy reclaimed-wood walls, furniture, or shelving. Or you could make a mini garden of herbs or vegetables right in your home. For a natural look at your window, check out what Hunter Douglas offers, such as Heritage® Hardwood Shutters, which showcase the individual characteristics of the wood, or Provenance® Woven Wood Shades, which come in natural materials such as bamboo, woven reeds, or grasses.
