Trending Colors in Interior Design – Rose Quartz and Serenity
Last month, we introduced you to the playful Pantone Minion Yellow, a trending color bound to make many children (and even many grownups!) very happy. And this month, Ross Howard Designs in the greater Dallas area is even more pleased to introduce the 2016 Colors of the Year. That’s right—that’s “Colors” plural, not just “Color.” For the first time ever, the trend has gone to a pair of colors. Please meet Rose Quartz and Serenity, two colors that will bring a sense of calm and peace to the scene.
The People Who Pick the Forecasted Colors of the Year and Why
Twice a year, the Color Marketing Group (color/trend forecasters and home décor and fashion designers) meet and decide what the colors will be for the next two years. Their choice is based on knowledge of past trends and how that will impact future ones. They look at factors such as the economy, current and foreign events (such as the Olympics, a Presidential election, or even a blockbuster movie), and whether we’re at war or peace. Once they’ve chosen the color (or colors, now!), industries from fashion to automotive swing into gear adapting the color to their product. For example, in a warmer climate, they might go with a lighter shade of the color while in a cooler climate, they may make it a bit darker. As you can see, color is not a designer’s whim. Color trends come from where we are, where we want to go, and how people are feeling or not feeling.
Pantone® Color Institute and Pantone Matching System
The Pantone Matching System is a universal color system that forecasters use to show the exact color that has been forecasted. This year’s colors are no different. Rose Quartz is Pantone color 13-1520, and Serenity is Pantone color 15-3919. Using Forecasted Colors for Your Home Design
Keep in mind that forecasted colors come and go—there’s a new one each year. So if you decide to use the colors, remember that you might want to be a little sparing—perhaps start with only accent pieces like throw pillows. That way, when a new forecasted color comes around, you won’t feel overburdened with out-of-date hues in your home.
