With Designer Screen Shades from Hunter Douglas, you can block the sun and its harmful UV rays without obstructing your view. Also called solar shades, these shades are made of a single layer of light fabric used with a traditional roller shade bar that blends well into almost any décor. Designer Screen Shades offer over 38 stylish material and color combinations. Their roller shade construction means they have a low profile with fabric that easily rolls up and down, and they take up very little window space when installed.
Openness with Screen Shades
Screen shades feature different openness factors which affects the amount of light and privacy the shade provides. In the photo, the left window is a 1% openness, the right side is 5% openness. Both allow light to come in at varying degrees. The 1% is a more obscured view verses the 5% which allows more light and a clearer view. The lower the percentage value, the tighter the weave. A 0% openness factor, for example, is a complete blackout shade that doesn’t allow any light in. Higher percentages let in more light and are easier to see through. The openness value of your screen shade doesn’t affect its style. They all have a clean sleek look with a variety of fabric colors and fascia housing in bronze, silver, black, vanilla or white.

Both residential and commercial customers enjoy the style and function of screen shades. For residential customers, screen shades are perfect for kitchens and living areas where natural light is welcome but needs to be muted without reducing the view. Lifting Systems for Screen Shades
The most common lifting system for roller screen shades is standard clutch system with a continuous cord loop. Pulling gently on the cord causes the clutch to rotate the metal roller tube, which raises or lowers the shade and holds it in place. For enhanced child and pet safety, cordless lifting systems that use the bottom bar or decorative pulls for operation are also available for screen shades.
