Pantone Color of the Year – Radiant Orchid
The easiest way to change the look and feel of any room is with a new color scheme. Color can change the mood of a room and give you a sense of purpose when re-decorating. One idea for a bold new color is Pantone’s color of the year for 2014, Radiant Orchid. It’s already becoming very popular, showing up in clothing design because it flatters many skin tones. We’re beginning to see it in interior design applications, too. For decorators, this saturated hue of purple is best used as an accent color against neutrals ranging from frosty whites to silvery greys.
Here are a few ways to use Radiant Orchid in your design:
Custom Drapery, Valances
Radiant Orchid is a color that really pops, and is beautiful as a top treatment or flowing drape to accent your Hunter Douglas blinds or shades. In a dining area, for example, you may choose a soft neutral roller shade for your window, accented with radiant orchid flat panel drapes. Solid colors make a bold statement, and a patterned fabric for your drapery can introduce a new color in a more subtle way. Radiant Orchid also works well on valances and top treatments, paired with most any blind or shade
Wallpaper
An accent wall with a patterned wallpaper incorporating the Radiant Orchid color creates a beautiful focal point in your room. Primarily solid colored wallpapers with some textured elements, is also very appealing. In a living room, for example, you may want to wallpaper one wall using your new color, then paint the other walls a soft neutral or maybe even a grey. Your wallpaper, as the main design element, will be the first thing people notice when entering your room. It creates an inspiration for the room and sets the stage for your design theme.
Accents
You don’t have to go all out to incorporate Pantone’s color of the year into your room design. Use it as one of your accent colors with pillows, throws, rugs, artwork, and accessories. In a bedroom, Radiant Orchid works beautifully either in your bedding itself, or on extra pillows and hanging art. Be creative!
