New in Interior Design – Decorating and Design in Dallas
At Ross Howard Designs here in Dallas, we keep our eye on trends so we can help ensure that our clients stay up to date. And one thing we’re noticing is that nationwide interior design has shifted in the aftermath of the pandemic. Some new trends have evolved—some that will certainly stay and some that might not—and we want our customers to know about them. Read on to learn more!
People Are Using Their Homes Differently
Across the country, life changed a fair amount for many people, especially at the beginning of the pandemic, but also throughout the year. People were working from home, kids were doing school from home, and social outlets were closed, so folk were watching all of their movies at home, making new breads at home, and conducting social visits over a variety of online platforms. Because people began to interact with their homes differently, people in all different areas began to alter interior design trends nationwide. For example:
- Defining work and school space. With an entire family either working or going to school from home, everyone needed a specific area to log in, focus, or zone out. To create distinct personal spaces, some people evolved their bay windows for their kids—using the nook as the main area, they could add external curtains to create a small room. For other areas, people used vertical solutions like Skyline® Gliding Window Panels, which can hang anywhere in a room to create a clear demarcation when needed and can be retracted when the room needs to be fully open.
- Using lots of technology. Again, when entire families were home, the internet was used in ways it hadn’t before, and some WiFi systems got overly taxed. So families reorganized technology solutions to ensure that the internet wouldn’t fail in any room of the home, including adding whole-home solutions to spread and boost the signal.
- A new focus on lighting. Being inside all day can disrupt a body’s natural sense of time. One way people began to combat that was to ensure that natural lighting would play a key role in their home during the day. Using PowerView® Motorization on window fashions allows people to program treatments to open and close based on their local sunrise and sunset times or their daily activities. That way, their bodies and minds can re-acclimate to natural day and night rhythms.
