Understanding Window Treatment Lingo
Are you a tilter or a lifter? If that question comes out of the blue for you, you probably have a thing or two to learn about the lingo that surrounds some types of window treatments. Once you understand the differences, you might be on your way to determining what sort of window treatment would work best for you. At Ross Howard Designs here in Dallas, we’re always trying to help our customers understand the nuances about window treatments, so they can be sure they get the right treatment with the right features for their needs and home. Products That Are Tilters
Typically, blinds are “tilters,” because, although they can be lifted, usually just the slats are tilted open or closed to adjust light and privacy levels. They add visual interest at the window and come in aluminum, wood, and vinyl, as well as a variety of paint stains and slat sizes. Hunter Douglas offers several product lines of blinds, including Parkland® Wood Blinds, , and Modern Precious Metals® blinds. Shutters are a different animal but are considered “tilters” too. The louvers can be tilted open or closed, and the panels can be swung open for full view-through. Shutters are available in wood, faux wood, and vinyl materials in a variety of paints, stains, and louver sizes. Hunter Douglas offers Heritance® Hardwood Shutters, NewStyle® Hybrid Shutters, and Palm Beach™ Polysatin™ shutters.
Products That Are Lifters
Typically, shades are “lifters,” because they either raise or lower to provide privacy or full view-through to the outside. Shades come in the largest color palette available in of all the window treatment categories and in the full range of opacities, from light-filtering to blackout. Perfect for homes that may want blackout shades in the bedrooms, semi-opaque shades in the front room, and semi-sheer or sheer shades to filter light for back of the house. Hunter Douglas shades offerings include Duette® Honeycomb Shades, Sonnette™ Cellular Roller Shades, Provenance® Woven Wood Shades, Designer Roller or Screen Shades, and more.
